Black Flag Music Video

Posted on 07 October 2016

Dear Readers,

It’s been awhile since I’ve written; and I mean, really written. But, the days pass quickly you see and so...I hope that you’ll forgive me. Life has, in many ways, run away from me this year in the most beautiful, profound, rare, illuminating, and also...incredibly difficult ways.

But we push forward, don’t we?  We find a way to look ahead.  We find a way to wake up, to get out of bed, to sit in the sun...and perhaps we even surprise ourselves with what it is that we can learn, and with what it is that we can accomplish...as we push ourselves through to the other side of the storm.

And so - I’d like to personally introduce the video for Black Flag, from my self-titled debut.  The video was directed by Clint Carney (Artist, Filmmaker, Musician) and it has been an absolute pleasure working with him on this project.  I hope that we can do something else again...soon.  But, about the video...

The original theme of Black Flag captured my (very) distilled commentary on quite a lot of things:  politics, money, groupthink, and primarily, my newfound struggle with society’s definition of the term “success”. When Clint and I first spoke about his concept for the video - I loved it. I never would have manifested these themes...this cognitive dissonance within me...as a creature. But there it was, and hey, I’m a huge fan of the horror genre in general...so this was perfect.

But today, it means so much more to me.  We all have demons, we all have things that we struggle through, and sometimes...those things keep us standing squarely in the eye of the storm, unnecessarily...until we simply decide that it’s time to move on.  Me?  I’m killing some of mine...metaphorically...with a Black Flag.

I’m incredibly proud to announce that blumhouse.com is handling the exclusive premiere of this video.  For those who don’t know, blumhouse.com is a joint partnership between Blumhouse productions (the lovely folks who brought us films like Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Sinister, and The Purge) and Red Seat Ventures.  Their goal? ...To celebrate all things scary.  It’s truly an honor that they would handle the premiere of Black Flag.

A special thanks to Clint Carney and the entire crew that made this happen:  Michael Garcia, Armik Davalokhanian, Travis Carney, Sioux Sinclair, and Heidi Carney.  I thoroughly enjoyed working with all of you.

I would also like to thank my band:  Nick Phrasavath, Jimmy Wilson, Carlos Ochoa, Ryan Chamberlain, and THE Ryan Hutman.  These guys are helping me bring Elias Black to life in new ways and I can’t wait for the world to see that.

Shows are being booked now, so maybe we’ll see each other soon and...I guess that’s it.  There’s so much more that I’d like to say, but I’ll save it for some other time.  Hope you enjoy the video.

Talk hard,

-Elias Black
